UPDATE ~ Man faces charges after yesterday’s dangerous driving incident
A 20-year-old man will appear in court today to face criminal charges after a dangerous driving incident yesterday in Bedford and Waverly.
At 2:43 p.m. a Halifax District RCMP member captured the speed of a white Chevrolet Camaro at over 200 km/h on highway 102. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop. Shortly thereafter, a member of the HRP Traffic Unit captured the speed of the same vehicle in a school zone on Rocky Lake Drive at 192 km/h. The driver passed several vehicles on a solid yellow line, facing oncoming traffic. The driver refused to stop, the vehicle was not pursued and was last seen heading towards Waverly.
Police set up a road block on Waverly Road, near Fall River but the driver refused to stop continuing to travel at a very high rate of speed, swerving lanes and narrowly avoiding other vehicles.
At about 3 p.m. the vehicle was located in the parking lot of Irving Gas Station, 200 Waverly Road, where the male driver was arrested without incident.
Marshall Ellis of Elderbank is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. Ellis was also issued two tickets for expired registration and operating a motor vehicle without liability policy.
